This week a forum on ‘IT for Maximising Business Opportunity’ organised by Findlay Media took place at the Woodland Grange hotel near Leamington Spa.
Sponsored by Preactor International, this enabled companies to discuss the issues they faced in the manufacturing sector and build on each other’s experience. Presentations from ASSEAL and Kinnerton Confectionary showed how their different environments provided the different problems experienced in a make-to-order complex assembly range of products, where fast turn round and quality of service was the key issue to build a business, and the very different needs of a company where the supply chain variability combined with seasonal demand brought with it a raft of additional problems to solve.
As part of the preparation for this forum, Findlay Media carried out a survey of British manufacturing companies to establish the current usage of IT tools by them and the part these played in maximising business opportunities for their company.
ERP and APS came out top of the usage charts but it was advanced planning and scheduling that showed the most benefit for users with 50% of users saying it had a great deal of impact on their company’s ability to flex operations to maximise their business opportunities and another 30% reporting some increase to this capability.
